I love you, Tulip Chairs

Ah, tulips...
I'm not sure if the tulip chairs in the last shot are a Saarinen design (has anyone ever seen the x-base before?), but I just had to post the pic because of that cute bride painting.

  1. I think the last shot is my favorite -- the way that all of the colors and textures are layered in that room is so wonderful!

  2. Very fun! I am trying to decorate my home in the 40s-50s, because the house was built in 1940. Love the inspiration.

  3. I do love these chairs. People poopoo them as being too "modern" but these pictures prove they can fit in any where.

How are you, CC? I've missed being here. When are you coming up to St Louis?

  4. Ah, my Kahuna and his family grew up with these famed chairs sitting in the kitchen. Four kids plus another five from next door, helping themselves to bags of chips and frozen strawberries. A Chinese grandma serving up homemade noodles and dumplings, all splashing about in their modern California kitchen, made the cover of Sunset Magazine in 1967. White with fuchsia!

Those chairs are still standing in the same spot to this day but, barely.

  5. Aaah you've done a post just for me ;)
One day I WILL have a tulip table and chair set. I simply must.
Still not sure whether I like the ones with arms or not - but I think I lean more towards the no arm tulip.
I'm pretty sure the chairs in the last picture are not authentic Saarinen. I think the ones with legs are Burke chairs.
I found this link to be quite informative http://bit.ly/gHJV7

  7. This has really cheered up my god awful day, thanks :) We have a mutual love and respect for the tulip chairs. The last shot chairs are by Arkana, same era, just as lovely but sometimes kinda cheaper!
