Bert and Ernie Update

As I mentioned a couple of posts ago, when I came home from work on Monday, Bert was out of the nest and hanging out in the flower pot. Look at that sweet face...And those giant feet...
The Boy found me watering in the back yard Monday evening to tell me that Bert was on the window sill. (I didn't want to get too close and risk scaring Bert, so those photos weren't very good). I didn't see him fly to the cherry tree a few feet away, but when I went outside later, there he was. Mom and Dad birds were chirping away in the nearby trees, trying to coax him to fly.
However, Bert stayed in the cherry tree overnight. I am astounded by how much his appearance has changed in less than 24 hours!
I haven't seen Bert since yesterday morning, so I do believe that he has joined his family in the big trees in front of the house. Yay for Bert! I haven't been able to get any good pics of Ernie these past couple of days. He seems to be sleeping all of the time, which worries me just a bit. He is still very tiny, and probably really lonely being all by himself in the nest. Hopefully Mama bird won't forget about Ernie just because Bert has left the nest...

  2. omg, what fantastic photos you got. I don't think mama will forget about Ernie, she'll stick around to make sure he learns to fly on his own. I so much love the last photo; he looks as if he is carrying the weight of the world on his back. There is so much we can learn from nature. I think the reason I love nature so much, it makes sense to me - people do not always make sense to me.:) A beautiful, beautiful post!

  11. Sigh. Isn't that just a sweet spring slice of life. Our little robins at the nursery flew the nest last week and I wasn't there to see it. I'm gonna miss the little guys.
