Cute shoes.

Here's a hint at a post I've been working on that will (hopefully) go live this weekend. I'm ridiculously in love with these Shoreham Wedge Sandals from Sperry Top-Sider. At $90, I can't justify buying them right now, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that in a month or two they'll go on sale.
A few fun things I've seen the past few weeks:

Great shadow.

Pink Stairs.

Cool tattoo.

A new favorite shop (found via yummychummy)

The most beautiful aerial photographs I've ever seen.

It's good to be Richard Branson.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

Geraniums

I used to loathe geraniums. I suppose I was burned out on them because my mom had those garish practically fluorescent orangey-salmony-reddish ones in the 70's and early 80's, so in my memory they were dated (kind of like shag carpet). Boy, have I changed my mind! A couple of months ago I woke up and decided that I love geraniums. I do think in part it's nostalgia. Unfortunately, I can't find the color I grew up with in my area, or even pictures of that variety online, so I settled for the "pinto red" variety. My little plants are just now coming into bloom, so I'll have to show pics of them later, but I couldn't wait to do a geranium post 'cause I'm impatient like that.

I really want some potted ones for my back deck, but big dog Dodge will probably eat them. Funny thing - I mentioned to my Mom my newfound love of the geraniums that I used to think were so hideous, and she laughed so hard because now those "ugly" geraniums are the only plant that my Dad simply won't allow in their yard. I suppose I'm not the only one who remembers them as 70's flowers. More info about geraniums here.

Stockholm

Stockholm has been on my "places to see in my lifetime" list for some time now, but after viewing these pics from Elle Decor, it has moved to the top of the list. More pics here.

Isn't this little mid-century-style map adorable?

Almost Too Cute...

"Bruce" in a (Dansk) Bowl. Oh Rearranged Design, how I love thee.

Sunny Interiors (to brighten my rainy day)

The weather in my region is cool, gray, and rainy today, which I don't really mind (the garden is quite thirsty). However, it's still nice to look at some sunny interiors to brighten the day, don't you think? There is really no cohesive theme here, just picked some of my favorites I've had filed away.

I'm loving the dedicated cookbook shelves in that kitchen, which otherwise has a little too much going on for my taste. (Just added cookbook shelves to my "ideal kitchen" list).

P.S. I'm so sorry I missed wishing all the Moms a happy Mother's Day! I hope you all had a lovely day. I spent the day with my husband's family (including his sweet mom and grandmother). My own Mom really wanted electric hedge trimmers for Mother's Day, but poor Mum badly cut her finger on them and had to be stitched up. Thankfully she was wearing heavy gloves, or that finger would have been gone :-O

Texas Wildflowers and Random Snaps

My drive to Texas was so beautiful: First Lady - Lady Bird Johnson's interstate wildflowers were blooming all the way from central Alabama through Texas. There were dozens upon dozens of varieties of wildflower in every color one can imagine. I was too eager to see my family to stop and take any pics along the drive, however was delighted to pull up in my parents' driveway and see the field next to their house in full bloom.
I kind of like the weird sunlight effect in the pic above, reminds me of a polaroid. Just to the left of the photo below are hundreds of typical Texas suburban homes. My parents hope there are no plans to develop this field anytime soon.
The orange blooms are Indian Paintbrush (there were also less showy yellow and purple flowers that are harder to make out).

Plants in my parent's garden - the lower right is a Texas Bluebonnet which sprung from seed. I've never been to Texas during wildflower peak, and I was lucky to catch some wild bluebonnets in bloom.
I dig this mid-century building in Fort Worth. Downtown Fort Worth has done a splendid job of blending old architecture with new.
Clever idea spotted at Witherspoon's Antiques in Granbury: old doorknobs as vases for dried flowers.
While I was in the shower, my nephew left this fresh-from-their-garden radish on the music stand in my room. I've never been too keen on radishes, but these were mild and quite tasty.
Opening day at the pool at my sister's house. The water was a chilly 70 degrees, but felt fantastic!
I'm finally caught up on shipping and other assorted non-shop related work stuff, so it's time for me to get down to work listing 100+ items of inventory, some of which I showed you here and here. What are you plans for the weekend? We will spend Sunday afternoon out of town with Mr. Cheese's mom and grandmother (two of the sweetest most wonderful women I've ever had the pleasure of knowing). Aside from that, I really should work all weekend. But the weather is going to be so lovely, it will be tough not to be distracted by the idea of a hike...

Help Nashville?

photo via popfi

My heart aches for my neighbors to the west. Overshadowed in the national media by the oil spill in the gulf and the car bomb attempt in NY, Nashville's flooding is being called the most expensive non-hurricane weather-related disaster in our country's history. I have family in Nashville who luckily were spared from any major damage, but they have passed along pictures and video that would bring you to tears. To make a $10 donation to the Red Cross via text message, text the word "RED CROSS" to 90999. Or this site has a good list of organizations accepting donations that will go straight toward Central and West Tennessee relief efforts.

Unicorn Meat

Like you guys, I was curious about the "Unicorn Meat" that was included in The Kitchn's photo collage that I posted a couple of days ago. Unicorn Meat was sold by ThinkGeek as their April Fool's Day product.
Per ThinkGeek, every bite includes real bits of unicorn...

As far as the actual ingredients - who knows? I suppose one has to pay $9.99 to order it and find out for one's self. I'm guessing it's dog food, but what is that sparkly stuff, and is it actually edible?

A Pair of Eames Lounge Chairs

I'm home (early!). The hotel screwed up my reservation, so jacked up on a giant frozen espresso drink and frustration, I decided to make the drive back from Texas in one day. I teasingly promised pics of the new additions a few days ago, but you know how it goes when you're out of town - busy, busy. Mr. Cheese took few snaps of the Eames lounge chairs he picked up while I was out of town. One chair is new old stock - made in 1991 but still has its tag attached. The other is the same age, but is pre-owned and has had a repair made to it. The original plan was to sell both chairs, but we are thinking of keeping the used chair.

After 15 long hours in the car yesterday, reclining in the dream chair was positively sublime. Definitely our find of the year! Now we just need a smaller sofa so that the chair & ottoman will fit in our living room (and you know I've been searching for a good reason to ditch my ugly sofa). More pics in the coming weeks as we get things situated...

New Addiction: The Kitchn

Have you been reading Apartment Therapy's The Kitchn? I haven't had much time to explore new (to me) blogs lately, but I found out about this gorgeous, highly addictive blog from Kate of the fabulous Hello Victory, who had one of her items featured on the blog. The Kitchn is so cool that it may even get away with bringing back the molded gelatin salad.

And funny thing, when I checked my google analytics a few days ago, I found that my orange tea kettle (above) had been featured on The Kitchn too! I'm always telling Kate that we are on the same wavelength, and here's yet another example. I swear, she's the Minnesota me (though far more stylish).

The Motherload!

Remember that I mentioned in a prior post that last weekend was the BEST estate sale weekend for me ever? Well, here's a preview of some of the items I'll be listing in the shop when I return from Texas next week. (And I didn't even have a chance to photograph the teak folding tables that we picked up). First up, two sets of Ben Seibel Jenfred-Ware bookends, folk Art from El Salvador, teak trivets, danish modern letter holder, teak bowl from Denmark, letter openers, Danish modern salt & pepper shakers, mod perpetual calendar, and mid-century cat dish...
Tell Me, Cat (this book is so fun that I will have to scan some photos for a future post!), assorted kitsch-y kitchen items, beautiful old illustrated copy of The Illiad, jewelery, trippy zodiac puzzle, eyeglass cases, and Dikes and Bikes, a mid-century Netherlands travel guide with the coolest illustrations...
Aprons, Copco enamel Skillet, Canister, Tupperware ketchup & mustard picnic pumps, very old ceramic fruit wall hangings, and a fabulous 60's flamingo...
Flower suitcase, faux bois desk file organizer, omelette pan, unused Dansk napkins in package, and a 1970 flower power quilting/needlepoint wall hanging kit with instructions & thread (fun timing finding that because the always fabulous Brini Maxwell just posted about vintage needlepoint and craft kits!)
I didn't even have a chance to clean anything before leaving for my vacation, but you see what will be keeping me busy for a couple of weeks when I get back. I can't wait!
